Talking to a number of different doctors and all had praises about what a good boss Chua Soi Lek was. They say he's the best Health Minister in a long time. One who works hard and tries to actually help the very overworked doctors in the health service.

"Alas, he's no more", moan one very senior doctor. Unlike other politician who will only give lip service, this is one guy who actually cares to take action. He's more doctor than politician. Perhap that explains why no other politician has ever come up to admit anything. Chua could have easily got away with it but he didn't.

Chua Soi Lek announces his resignation

Mr Chua said he was resigning immediately from all his posts as health minister, member of parliament and vice-president of the Malaysian Chinese Association, the number two party in Mr Abdullah's ruling coalition.

"I am relinquishing my positions," a calm-looking Mr Chua told reporters, adding that he had discovered that people "could not accept" his public apology for his actions.

So Chua Soi Lek, the Health Minister has admitted that he is the man in the sex dvds circulating around.

He said he had apologised to the prime minister and other party leaders but would not resign, and his own wife and children had accepted his apology.

Mr Chua said he had taken no part in the making of the DVD recordings, one of them said to be almost an hour long.

The video is CCTV footage taken in a hotel, according to one newspaper.

"I am the man in the tape," Mr Chua, 60, told reporters.

"The girl is a personal friend."

The DVDs are believed to be CCTV recordings made in a hotel suite. The hotel and the date are reportedly unknown.

As health minister, Mr Chua has advocated giving out free condoms to reduce the spread of HIV, in the face of religious opposition.

DATUK Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek is the man in the sex DVD circulating in Johor.

The Health Minister admitted this yesterday, saying that the woman seen in the DVD is a personal friend. Dr Chua, the Labis MP and MCA vice-president, has apologised to MCA president Datuk Seri Ong Ka Ting, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi and Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and to his family over the matter.

Dr Chua's wife Datin Seri Wong Sek Hin said in a statement that she and the family would stand by him.

Asked about his political future, Dr Chua said: “I leave it to my party members, leaders and the Malaysian public.”

On who was behind the video clip, Dr Chua said: “Who did it and why is obvious but it is not important now.”
